It would be interesting to see a chart of resale value of that issue over the past two years. But that isn't data I track or intend to track.Gilgabob wrote:I just wish I'd sold Nonplayer #1 2 years ago when it was hot.

This could be said about most hot books. Walking Dead is the exception.Gilgabob wrote:I just wish I'd sold Nonplayer #1 2 years ago when it was hot.
The 1st couple of issues of "Who is Jake Ellis?" were hot back when the series 1st started up. There was a point when the 1st print of #1 was going for >$30. Not any more.
Sell Peter Panzerfaust & Nowhere Men now, for instance, unless you are a collector & just want to have them forever.

The prices tend to go down after the series ends.BobBretall wrote:This could be said about most hot books. Walking Dead is the exception.Gilgabob wrote:I just wish I'd sold Nonplayer #1 2 years ago when it was hot.

If the prices of the first six issues of Walking Dead drop to a more reasonable level (>$20), I'll consider getting those issues. Otherwise, I'm fine with the trade paperback I have collecting them. Odds are it would take the series ending for that to happen and probably not even then.

I'm guessing that we'll see Nonplayer #2 completed pretty soon. Nate's said that its nearly complete, and I know that he's been working on it every day for the last couple months. My guess is that it not getting done has more to do with life getting in the way than anything else. That, and making comics is really difficult.

I don't think Simpson should do anything to talk about or release #2 until he completes the entire 1st story arc. Then reissue #1 and then do all the issues monthly because they're all done & ready to go.BadDeacon wrote:I'm guessing that we'll see Nonplayer #2 completed pretty soon. OR go straight to an OGN.
If he just puts out #2 it will quickly become "Gee, is it going to take 2 more years to see #3?"
Re: You know a comic is late when...
I agree. I'd rather wait longer to get the rest and have it come out in short order than to have long waits between issues.BobBretall wrote:I don't think Simpson should do anything to talk about or release #2 until he completes the entire 1st story arc. I get where you're coming from, and I also see where Nate is coming from.JohnMayo wrote:I agree. From what I can tell, Nate is just a dude with a family and a job, who's making a comic in his free time. It would be a lot harder to keep the motivation going to create 6 issues worth of content, with nothing to see for all that work. I imagine there is a big motivating factor to seeing an issue in print.
I know it may not be the best for the consumer, or the best from a business perspective, but it may be best from a creative perspective.

Also, I'm a bit biased when it comes to Nonplayer, I've received a lot of inspiration and motivation from Nate to work on my own comic story.

I loved issue #1, but the guy dug himself into a BIG hole with the multi-year absence after issue #1. Heck, if he had done an issue consistently every 3 months or so he'd not be in the situation he's in.BadDeacon wrote:Also, I'm a bit biased when it comes to Nonplayer, I've received a lot of inspiration and motivation from Nate to work on my own comic story.
Personally, I'll buy issue #2 when it comes out regardless, but he's going to be facing a LOT of detractors because of his track record. One way to defuse those detractors is to come out with a guaranteed way to ensure the story will ship on time for the duration.
Re: You know a comic is late when...
I will not be supporting a creator with his track record. There are plenty of creators who work hard and give the effort to deliver their product within a reasonable time-frame that deserve supporting. Nate Simpson can release new material every 5 years if he wants but that's not a story I'm interested in following.BobBretall wrote:I loved issue #1, but the guy dug himself into a BIG hole with the multi-year absence after issue #1. So is he toxic for you forever now?Gilgabob wrote: I will not be supporting a creator with his track record. What if he finished a project & solicited a complete story? Would you give that a shot or are you just done with the guy?
Re: You know a comic is late when...
I don't hate the man personally. I would still happily read a collected edition of his work that contains an entire arc or story. I just don't trust him to give me the next chapter of any sort of periodical story.BobBretall wrote:So is he toxic for you forever now?Gilgabob wrote: I will not be supporting a creator with his track record. Re: You know a comic is late when...
Given the pressure he seems to be under after the massive positive response from the first issue back when it came out, I'm not convinced releasing it when he did was best from a creative perspective.BadDeacon wrote:From what I can tell, Nate is just a dude with a family and a job, who's making a comic in his free time. Re: You know a comic is late when...
I'm willing to accept lateness on a creator owned property like Nonplayer as part of the unfortunate reality of the business. But if I were to get Nonplayer #2 and then have to wait another year or two before #3, I'd be a bit annoyed. Not as much because of the actual delay but because of how it would be killing the story momentum.
I gave up on Alcatraz High because it was forever between issues. Unless each issue is fairly self-contained in way that makes each individual issue accessible and a very satisfying read, that sort of release schedule just don't work well fr me.
